Looking for a Japanese restaurant that serves not only sushi? We found the perfect spot! Shiko restaurant, located in downtown Porto, Portugal. It is a small cozy place so it is best if you book in advance.
We decided to go with the Spanish method of eating and ask for several dishes in order to get the most out of this meal. We asked for the Okonomiyaki, a Japanese savoury pancake that contains several ingredients.
Then, we tried the flamed mackerel, marinated in garlic and miso soup. Oh my, bring us some more!
Next, it was time for the Salmon Tataki, made with flamed salmon, miso soup and togarashi (a Japanese spice that contais 7 ingredients). If heaven on earth had a taste, this should be it!
Afterwards we ordered some sushi. We asked for several combinations, mostly within the salmon range.
Being sweet lovers there is always room for dessert so we asked for Kasutera, a traditional sponge cake made of sugar, flour, eggs and starch syrup. And guess what, it was brought to Japan by Portuguese. For you that have been to Portugal it is similar to Pão-de-Ló.
Last but not least, we devoured the brownie with coconut and caramel topping.
Hungry? I definitely am. While finishing this post I feel tempted on picking up the phone and making a dinner reservation for tonight.
Bon Appétit!
